Leon Reich, Founder & Visionary

Leon Reich

Leon Reich is an accomplished entrepreneur, public servant, and Zionist leader, with a lifelong commitment to Jewish heritage and combating antisemitism. His entrepreneurial ventures span hospitality, construction, and cultural development, including founding South Africa’s largest private wine cellar and organizing major cultural events like the Grahamstown Festival.

In public service, Leon broke barriers as the only Jewish Mayor and Alderman of Grahamstown, South Africa. He served as Chairman of the Grahamstown Jewish Community and Synagogue for a decade and was an active member of the Settlers Monument Foundation and Rhodes University Council.

A dedicated Zionist, Leon served as Vice Chairman of the South African Zionist Federation for 20 years, revitalizing Betar and Likud South Africa.
In 2017, Leon and his wife Juliette made Aliyah, following in the footsteps of their four children and 11 grandchildren, all of whom were inspired by his unwavering commitment to Zionism and love for Israel.

In 2024 Leon Reich founded the Leon Reich Centre for Combatting Antisemitism. He says: “Jews cannot remain passive or reactionary to antisemitism. It’s time to fight back – and to do that, one needs knowledge and skills. It all begins with education.”
